Mai Chau – Rice field paradise
If you are willing to visit the countryside surrounding Hanoi, choosing Mai Chau is a perfect nature getaway.
Located 160 kms of Hanoi, Mai Chau is accessible by public bus or by car, unfortunately no train ride can get you there.
Part of the Hoa Binh Province, Mai Chau is a rural district known for it’s rice fields, it’s small Thai Villages made of stilt houses.
For what travel style
Spending a few days in Mai Chau is ideal if you want to take a break from the city and discover a rural place still (maybe not for long) preserved from mass tourism.
Walking among the villages, cycling in the countryside, watching the locals work in the rice paddies, that’s what you should expect when you visit Mai Chau. The are no “major” tourism sites to visit here.
Mai Chau is now part of many group excursions or trek departures, but organizing a walk on your own in the country side is fairly easy here.
Do not forget to stay on the roads and paths.
Most people visiting Mai Chau, enjoy staying in Homestays which are usually located in traditional thai stilt houses.
