Before helping you find one, let’s bash a few stereotypes on what an eco-friendly eatery or bar can be.
Eco-friendly eateries are vegetarian only: Wrong
You have salad and you think it should only be for rabbits? Well, come one. First a vegetarian restaurant is not only a salad bar, otherwise no one would survive with a vegetarian diet, and second eco-friendly restaurant does not mean restaurants serving only plant based proteins. Have you heard of sustainable fishing methods, or sustainable farming? Sustainable eateries, can serve meat and fish, but they will probably not serve you huge portions, or gmo raised breeds or anything of the kind.
By eco-friendly bars, you mean juice bars: Wrong
Well there are great juice bars out there, but to us if they sell you strawberry juice on December the 25th, they’re not even close to being sustainable. When it comes to eating an eco-friendly or sustainable place is not only about healthy food, it’s also about using less ressources, not using single use plastic, helping the local community. And they can serve other drinks than juices and tea or fair-trade coffee.
To be sure it’s green, I should check if it is eco-labelled : Surely not
Only a few restaurants and bars are certified by an official green label like green key, européan eco label and so on. But a lot are part of associations, movements that don’t specifically claim to be green, but actually do have a significant part of their goals concerning sustainable practices. And you know what, a lot of small businesses don’t even need to be part of an association or a movement to be gren, it’s just part of their philosophy.
Eco-friendly is not budget friendly : WRONG.
As we mentioned eco-friendly eateries and bars can exist for all traveller styles, and it is the same for budget. From high end to budget restaurants, you will certainly find a place that matches you wallet.
