Holiable's review of Uncle Sam’s Trekking
Kalaw is very famous among travellers of all age to do a 2 to 3 days trek from the city up to the Inle lake.
When we visited Myanmar in 2016, we planned a one day trek around the area and chose to do it with Uncle Sam’s as it had been recommended to us by someone.
What you can expect
To book a tour with Uncle Sam, step inside the shop. It’s quite easy to find, and it is just in front of the family-owned restaurant
You will be presented all the possible routes either to visit the area or to go the Inle lake (you can do it in 2 or 3 days depending on what you want to see)
The next morning we experienced a great day, even if the end of the trek was under the heavy rain.
Our guide, Sun, explained plenty of things about the plants of the area, or how the tea harvest took place.
We stopped in Villages, stopped by a school but with very much respect for the people in the village.
Our lunch break was at the famous “viewpoint” restaurant a vegetarian shack where we ate the best vegetarian food with an excellent view.
Our opinion
Our experience with Uncle Sam’s Trekking for a one day trek was very nice. Our guide, was from the mountains, but lived in the village for a few years and was passionate about nature.
The stops we made in villages were authentic and gave us an excellent overview of how people lived in the area.
